On Monday, Dior Johnson, a point guard in the class of 2022, became Pitt’s highest-rated commit in the Jeff-Capel era.
Johnson is ranked as the No. 37 overall player in the nation as well as the No. 7 point guard in the class, according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.
That makes him the highest-ranked commitment of the Capel era, a record previously held by Trey McGowens, who ranked as the No. 95 player in the 2019 class. John Hugley now ranks third, as he was the No. 99 player in 247’s 2020 composite. While Jorge and Guillermo Diaz-Graham are rated in the top-100 by new recruiting service On3, neither crack the top 100 on 247 Sports or Rivals.
Johnson was ranked as high as the No. 6 player in the nation back in 2019, when he was a sophomore in high school. He was ranked within the top-10 up until September of 2021, when his ranking initially slid.
Pitt has now added eight players this offseason: Johnson, Greg Elliott, Nelly Cummings, Blake Hinson, Fede Federiko, Cashius McNeilly, Jorge Diaz-Graham and Guillermo Diaz-Graham. With the addition of Johnson, Pitt has now filled all of its scholarships for next season.
What just happen !!
He will transfer in 3…2…
Best case is that he is one and done to become a pro somewhere. Can always recruit on that players were developed and featured to go pro.
Outstanding news! That is a huge pickup for the program. Johnson will average over 10 assists a game with Hugley and the 7ft twins. Great job! This roster is so much better than in years past and can’t wait to see Pitt in action. #H2P
So then….no further excuses for Felton & crew.
“The New York native has spent time at ten different high school programs around the country in recent years” and he has de-committed from both Oregon and Syracuse.
Let’s see how this plays out.
NIL at work.
If Hugley losses weight and the twins get extensive playing time, with a good point guard all they need is a coach. Fire Capel in 2023 and we might have a team with talent to attract someone who can handle personalities and has some idea of college coaching. Remember Capel has ruined 4 star, can’t miss Jeffereies by playing him out of position.
Stop, Jeffers is trash nothing to do with Coaching.
Come on Rob !!! Give us that negativity!!! Go Pitt . Rob get out of that basement!
Should be interesting to say the least. Dysfunctional player meet dysfunctional coaching staff.
