Top-40 guard Dior Johnson’s commitment to Pitt on Monday may not be the only commitment the Panthers receive this week.
Class-of-2023 4-star guard Carlton Carrington, a 6-foot-3, top-100 prospect out of Baltimore, Maryland, will be announcing his decision on Wednesday at noon ET live on CBS Sports HQ. Carrington is deciding between five schools: Pitt, George Mason, Loyola Chicago, Stanford, and Iona.
He has visited Pitt twice, including a recent official visit in the beginning of June and an unofficial trip last fall. Primarily recruited by associate head coach Milan Brown, Carrington has developed relationships with the entire Pitt staff, specifically Brown and head coach Jeff Capel, over the course of more than one year.
“I’ve been communicating with Coach Brown and Coach Capel a lot and actually for over a year now,” Carrington told Pittsburgh Sports Now after visiting Pitt recently. “Our communication during this time has gone really well and they told me that they wanted me to come up for an official visit, so I accepted the opportunity [to visit]. What stood out to me about the weekend was the amazing campus that Pitt has, plus the surrounding area. Also, just everything that the University of Pittsburgh has to offer aside from just athletics. Basketball wise, what stands out to me about Pitt is the amazing conference that they play in along with the coaches on the staff. Also, getting to see it, Pitt’s basketball facilities are really nice.”
Carrington has also taken an official visit to George Mason, and was slated to take a trip to Loyola Chicago, but PSN has confirmed with a source that Carrington did not end up visiting the Ramblers.
