Calijah Kancey Named Athlon Sports First Team All-American

In what will be the first in terms of national awards this season, Pitt’s Calijah Kancey has received a nice honor.

The talented junior defensive tackle was named a first-team All-American by Athlon Sports. The national publication described Kancey was “unblockable in bursts”.

Kancey was the leader of Pitt’s productive 2021 defensive line as he led the team in tackles for loss (13) and was second in sacks (7). That productivity allowed the Miami native to be named first-team All-ACC and a third-team Associated Press All-American.

Despite being a junior, Kancey is someone that NFL teams are watching and with another solid season will no doubt be a candidate to leave early for the NFL Draft.

Athlon’s preseason publication rates Pitt’s defensive line as the fourth best in the country, behind only Clemson, Alabama and Georgia.

The magazine gives Pitt a preseason ranking of No. 22 and has them finishing second in the ACC Coastal Division.
