Pitt Picks Up Commitment from 3-Star Florida WR Lamar Seymore

Pitt’s success rate in closing the deal with official visitors has often been a factor in the recruiting cycle, but perhaps the 2023 cycle more than ever has shown that head coach Pat Narduzzi and the staff can close at home.

2023 three-star wide receiver Lamar Seymore from Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida committed to Miami way back in April of 2020, picking up numerous offers since his original commitment date, but after an official visit to Pittsburgh from June 16-18, he decommitted from Miami. And today, he’s officially committed to Pitt.

With offers from Auburn, Colorado, Florida Atlantic, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Coastal Carolina, Penn State, Tennessee, West Virginia, Pitt, UCF and Miami, Seymore has received major college interest since his Miami commitment, but Pitt was able to seal the deal.

Wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood has established a strong connection with Seymore during the recruiting process, especially since offering on May 25, and that connection with Underwood and defensive line coach Charlie Partridge when combined with Pitt’s Florida recruiting, helped foster that bond.

“(Pitt) produces good athletes like Calijah (Kancey), I’m good friends with Calijah, he’s from down here,” Seymore told Pittsburgh Sports Now in June. “The running back (Vincent Davis) from Cardinal Gibbons. So, they’re producing good players from Miami.”

With an All-American Florida import in Kancey telling Seymore the good word about Pitt, he would’ve been hard-pressed to find a better example of how the transition can go.

With solid size (6-foot, 185 pounds) and the pedigree of playing at a powerhouse Florida state champion, Seymore’s blend of speed and quickness with the ball in his hands fits well into Pitt’s offense inside or outside.

In just seven games as a junior at Miami Central, Seymore hauled in 19 receptions for 355 yards and four touchdowns (at just under 20 yards per reception) alongside 2024 wide receiver Joshisa Trader — a top-10 national recruit in the cycle.

247Sports rates Seymore as the 839th-ranked recruit in the class (109th-ranked wide receiver and the 103rd-ranked recruit from Florida) while On3 rates him as the 855th-ranked recruit in the class (125th-ranked wide receiver and the 129th-ranked recruit from Florida). Rivals rates him as the 96th-ranked wide receiver in the class — holding a 5.6 Rivals Rating.

Seymore is Pitt’s third wide receiver recruit of the cycle, joining four-star Zion Fowler (Jersey City, New Jersey) and Kenny Johnson (York, Pennsylvania). With three strong additions to the class, the only other receiver option would be five-star Hykeem Williams.

Nobody tell him he’s gonna be stuck playing in a place called Acrisure Field.

Worst kept secret of this recruiting cycle. Glad he’s finally “officially” on board.
