The Robert Morris Colonials are loading up in preparation of the 2022-23 men’s basketball season.

RMU announced its roster on Friday for the upcoming campaign, adding 11 players to the program.

A total of 16 student-athletes fill the program including graduate student Kahliel Spear, returning for his third season as a Colonial.

Spear started all 32 of RMU’s games in 2021-22 and was named to the 2022 All-Horizon League Third Team.

He was also the first RMU men’s or women’s basketball player to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team, placing on the second team.

Guards Michael Green III and Enoch Cheeks, in their second and third seasons with the program, respectively, along with forward Matt Mayers all return to Andy Toole’s squad.

Toole will be entering his 13th season as head coach in RMU’s third year in the Horizon League.

Robert Morris once again welcomes a large number of new players including four transfers from Division I programs.

The Colonials are adding guards Josh Corbin (Winthrop) and Chris Ford (Davidson) and forwards Trey James (Iona) and Kevin Martina (Sam Houston State).

A junior from Gahanna, Ohio, Corbin played three seasons at Winthrop, redshirting his first, and started five of the 20 games he appeared in. Corbin only averaged 4.7 points per game but shot 25-of-85 (29.4%) from behind the three-point arc.

Ford only registered 28 minutes of action during his freshman season at Davidson playing in the A10. At 6-foot-5 and in his second season of college ball, Ford could play a role behind Cheeks and move to small forward when needed.

James, a 6-foot-9 sophomore, was redshirted his first year at Iona and only saw the court in 11 of Iona’s 33 games last year for head coach Rick Pitino, averaging a little over a point.

Martina, hailing from Geneva, Switzerland, also came off the bench in every game for Sam Houston State. He only played in 11 games, scoring 1.5 points per game. Another sophomore and standing at 6-foot-7, Martina played in the FIBA U20 European Championships and averaged 17.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for Switzerland, converting 66% of his three-point shots.

The group also includes one JUCO product and three walk-ons to round out the roster.

Tanner O’Grady, a 6-foot guard from Upper St. Clair High School, is one of the walk-ons looking to make an impact on Toole’s team.

Robert Morris finished the 2021-22 season 8-24 overall and 5-16 in the Horizon League, winning one game in the conference tournament against Youngstown State.
