The St. Louis Cardinals drafted former Taylor Allderdice high school and Pittsburgh Diamond Dawgs pitcher Tanner Jacobson at the No. 307 pick in the 10th round of the MLB Draft Monday.
Jacobson pitched at DII Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., while also playing outfield and the designated hitter.
As a designated hitter/outfielder last season, he hit .316, with five home runs and 18 RBIs. He pitched in sixteen games, starting eight of them, earning a 5-3 record, 4.09 ERA, 79 strikeouts and 25 walks over 61.2 innings pitched.
Jacobson starred for Allderdice over his final two seasons of play, making 88 strikeouts and possessing a 3.01 ERA.
Jacobson is the last person from Allderdice to earn a draft pick in over 20 years. The Seattle Mariners drafted Allderdice alum, Vance Hall, in the 28th round in the 2002 MLB Draft.
