Pitt’s Tim O’Toole Shows Interest in Penn Hills Prospect Daemarr Kelly

Over the past few months, the Pitt hoops staff has been out on the road recruiting players from all over the country.

However, when on the road, one of the prospects that caught the eye of Pitt Associate HC Tim O’Toole was from the Pittsburgh area. Shortly after the third session of the Nike EYBL circuit in Louisville this summer, O’Toole reached out to Penn Hills’ 6-foot-5 guard/wing Daemarr Kelly.

Kelly holds offers from Robert Morris and Radford, and is also receiving interest from Pitt, Albany, St. Peter’s, South Alabama, Colgate, and more. As for a potential trip 9 miles down the road for a visit to Pitt, Kelly said, “I would love to take a visit there.”

Kelly showed off his talents this summer on a talented Team Final squad that competed all over the country. When June rolled around, he competed for his Penn Hills Indians and caught the eye of many scouts and coaches while playing for them.

“As a Pittsburgh native who plays for Team Final, Kelly is no stranger to the tough competition in the Philly area,” City of Basketball Love’s Josh Verlin said in a report on Kelly this summer. “The 6-5 wing proved his dominance on Saturday afternoon, recording 26 points to go along with four rebounds in the team’s 70-44 victory over Bethlehem Catholic. Kelly drained his first deep triple on Penn Hills’ opening possession and the rest of the game flowed through him, finishing 7-of-9 from distance. Coming up with key rebounds and protecting the rim, Kelly was also a force on the defensive end with his length, quick hands and athleticism caused fits for the young Bethlehem Catholic forwards.”

Pitt has hosted several recruits on visits this summer, including class-of-2023 guard commitment Carlton Carrington out of Baltimore, Maryland. The Panthers also earned a commitment in the class from Marlon Barnes, a wing from Cleveland, Ohio.
