According to a report by Jon Rothstein, Pitt will be taking on the Michigan Wolverines in the first round of the 2022 Legends Classic.
Arizona State and VCU make up the rest of the four-team field and will face off in the first round as well. The event will take place on Nov. 16 and 17.
Michigan finished last season 19-15 (11-9 Big Ten). Led by head coach Juwan Howard, the Wolverines made it to the Sweet 16 last season but fell to Villanova in that matchup. This season, Michigan returns 7-foot-1 consensus All-American Hunter Dickinson, who averaged 18.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game last season. Alongside Dickinson will be Duke transfer Joey Baker, Princeton guard transfer Jaelyn Llewelyn, and returning forward Terrance Williams II.
Pitt returns leading scorer John Hugley, as well as veteran guards Jamarius Burton and Nike Sibande. The Panthers brought in a transfer class consisting of point guard Nelly Cummings, versatile forward Blake Hinson, and sharpshooter Greg Elliott. Highly touted freshman Dior Johnson also looks to make an impact in his rookie season with the program.
The Panthers play two games prior to heading to Brooklyn for the event. They open the season against UT Martin at the Petersen Events Center on Nov. 7, and shortly after will host West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl on Nov. 11.
