First Pitt Football Two Deep Depth Chart Released

Published

on

It’s officially game week for Pitt football, and the first two-deep depth chart has been released ahead of the Backyard Brawl on Sept. 1.

There’s not a whole bunch of surprise when it comes to the depth chart, but what does the full list look like?

Quarterback

Kedon Slovis – Nick Patti – Nate Yarnell

No real surprises here. Yarnell has gained the upper hand on transfer Derek Kyler, it appears.

Running Back

Israel Abanikanda – Rodney Hammond – Vincent Davis OR C’Bo Flemister

All aboard the Izzy hype train. He’s the No. 1, and Hammond is the No. 2. It’s speaks to Flemister’s progress that he’s earned an ‘Or’ designation with Davis. Daniel Carter will likely serve that full back role.

Wide Receiver

Konata Mumpfield – Jaylon Barden

Jared Wayne – Jaden Bradley

Bub Means – Myles Alston

Again, no surprises here. This is a good, versatile six-man unit, and it’s loaded with potential star power and worthwhile depth.

Tight End

Gavin Bartholomew – Kyi Wright OR Karter Johnson

Strong three-man unit. Both Wright and Johnson impressed during camp, and Bartholomew is ready to take the ACC by storm.

Offensive Line

Carter Warren – Branson Taylor

Marcus Minor – Ryan Jacoby

Owen Drexel – Terrence Moore

Jake Kradel – Blake Zubovic

Gabe Houy – Matt Goncalves – Jason Collier Jr.

The starting unit remains unchanged, despite some positional battles in camp. This is a very, very, very deep unit, that doesn’t even list true freshman Ryan Baer, and I’d expect more rotational play than last season.

Defensive End

Habakkuk Baldonado – Dayon Hayes OR Nate Temple

Deslin Alexandre – John Morgan

No real surprises here, but it does speak to Temple’s growth that he’s right there with Hayes on the depth chart.

Defensive Line

David Green OR Devin Danielson – DeAndre Jules

Calijah Kancey – Devin Bentley

Exactly as we expected here. Strong rotation play from Green, Danielson, Bentley and now Jules expected.

Linebacker

Star: Bangally Kamara – Solomon DeShields

Mike: SirVocea Dennis – Brandon George

Money: Shayne Simon – Tylar Wiltz

The starters were expected, and the only really interesting thing about the listing is that Wiltz and DeShields are in their opposite slots. Wiltz was expected to slide into that Star position.

Safety

Brandon Hill – Judson Tallandier OR Javon McIntyre

Erick Hallett – P.J. O’Brien

Two starters returning to their positions, an experience depth option and a couple of up-and-coming youngster coming off good camps. Nice mix.

Cornerbacks

A.J. Woods – Rashad Battle – Ryland Gandy

Marquis Williams – M.J. Devonshire – Noah Biglow

Woods slides into Damarri Mathis’s vacated spot, and the top four of Williams, Woods, Devonshire and Battle is back for another season. Gandy has impressed since arriving as an early enrollee in January.

Placekicker

Ben Sauls – Sam Scarton

Sauls displaced Scarton as the starting placekicker with a strong camp performance, and he’ll once again handle his kickoff duties.

Punter

Sam Vander Haar – Cam Guess

Early enrollee Vander Haar has done enough to earn the starting spot, continuing the trend of Aussie punters in Pittsburgh.

Holder

Cam Guess – Sam Vander Haar

Long Snapper

Byron Floyd – James Fineran

Kickoff Returner

Israel Abanikanda – Vincent Davis

Punt Returner

Konata Mumpfield – M.J. Devonshire – Jaylon Barden

What team did you watch last year? Duz has this program at an almost elite level.

Where is Elliot Donald and Sean Fitzsimmons? Plus, there is another defensive linemen that came in with them that I can’t think of at the moment.

I’m concerned that Donald wasn’t even mentioned on Narduzzi radio show. I was hoping he was on the 2 deep by now. The other guy I’m wondering. about is aydin Hemingway? He was a pretty big recruit when he came in and I thought he would be playing by now. Narduzzi even mentioned that he thought they were really thin at linebacker, but no mention of Hemingway?

Do you guys have any info on those 2??
