Priority Recruit Ty-Laur Johnson Taking Official Visit to Pitt for Backyard Brawl

As Pitt hosts West Virginia on Thursday for the Backyard Brawl at Acrisure Stadium, one of Pitt basketball’s top recruiting priorities, Ty-Laur Johnson, will be in attendance.

After spending last year at St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey, the 6-foot-1 Johnson is now headed to play for Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx, New York. Johnson is ranked as the No. 68 player in the class of 2023 by the 247 Sports Composite.

Johnson is undoubtedly a top priority for the Pitt staff, as he is one of the most talented guards in the 2023 class and he has had a relationship with the Pitt staff dating all the way back to June of 2021 and beyond.

“That’s going to be my first one and I’m excited to get there,” Johnson said about his upcoming Pitt visit in an interview with Rivals’ Rob Cassidy. “I’ve known Coach O’Toole for a long time now and he’s a really cool guy. His son plays for my [grassroots] team.”

THINGS TO KEEP AN EYE ON

Johnson recently transferred to Our Saviour Lutheran in the Bronx, NY.

Johnson currently has just two official visits set for this fall: Pitt (Sept. 1-3) and Ole Miss (Sept. 24-26).

Pitt offered Johnson back on June 2, while Ole Miss offered him on July 28.

Memphis jumped into Johnson’s recruitment recently after the hiring of former NY Renaissance Director Andy Borman. Johnson played his AAU ball for Renaissance. He has not publicly announced a visit to Memphis yet, but the interest has been reported.
