Pitt QB Commit Kenny Minchey’s Electrifying Senior Season Continues

A lightning delay during Pope John Paul II High School’s Friday night contest against Father Ryan High School ended up being a sign.

A sign that 2023 four-star Pitt commit Kenny Minchey’s electrifying senior season was going to continue in a big way. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound signal-caller led PJPII to a 49-35 victory over Father Ryan to secure a 3-0 start to the season for the Knights.

And with just 14 passing attempts Friday night, basically every third throw was a perfectly-placed deep ball touchdown. Minchey completed 11-of-14 passing attempts on the way to a 292-yard, five-touchdown performance through the air.

For reference, Minchey connected with his wide receivers on touchdown passes of 29, 37, 52, 55 and 57 yards in length.

Through three games, he’s completed 39-of-55 (71%) passing attempts for 707 yards and 10 touchdowns — with just one interception. And PJPII is unbeaten in Tennessee Division II Class-AAA football

Minchey, who was officially named to the prestigious Elite 11 after a very, very strong summer of camps, is one of the top-rated quarterbacks in the class of 2023.

247Sports rates Minchey as the 285th-ranked recruit in the class (15th-ranked quarterback), ESPN rates him as the 179th-ranked recruit in the class (fifth-ranked quarterback), On3 rates him as the 276th-ranked recruit in the class (14th-ranked quarterback) and Rivals rates him as the 14th-ranked quarterback in the class.

Minchey holds a strong four-star status from each recruiting site, aside from Rivals.

Minchey is the crown jewel of Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class, and as his recruiting profile has blown up through the summer, his bond with Pitt has seemingly only grown stronger and stronger.
