Pitt baseball got their second commitment on Monday for their 2024 class, as shortstop Joey Spano Jr. announced his decision to join the program.
Spano plays for Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pa. and last played for both Keystone State Bombers 16U and Erie Steelheads Baseball travel team this past summer. He earned second-team Region 5 honors last season for his stellar play for Cathedral Prep.
He stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs around 170 pounds and is both quick on the base paths and fielding. At the PA state games this past June, Spano ran a 6.74 60-yard dash and a 86 mph velocity across the infield.
In the batter’s box, Spano looks comfortable and able to hit for some serious power, particularly with his strong finish of his swing.
Spano joins Andy Perez as the second commitment on Monday to commit to Pitt. Both players feature at the shortstop position, giving head coach Mike Bell great options to improve the Panthers over when they arrive.
