Pitt DE Dayon Hayes To Miss Rest of 2022 Season

Pitt defensive end Dayon Hayes.

The Pitt defense has suffered a big loss, as a source told Pittsburgh Sports Now that talented sophomore defensive end Dayon Hayes will miss the remainder of the 2022 season with a knee injury.

A PSN source said that Hayes has a meniscus issue and is scheduled to undergo surgery this week. This is something that has hampered Hayes this year and it got to the point that he didn’t want to put off surgery any longer. This was the reason that Hayes didn’t travel with the team to Western Michigan.

PSN has been told that this surgery is expected to sideline Hayes for six to eight months.

The former four-star recruit was in a four-man defensive end rotation with John Morgan, Haba Baldonado and Deslin Alexandre. This group has played without Alexandre for the last two games and will now be without Hayes for the season. Baldonado was also injured against Western Michigan.

This unfortunate injury could give an opportunity for former four-star recruit redshirt freshman Nahki Johnson to receive regular playing time.

Kids don’t realize they are one snap from being the next man up. Depth is what separates Georgia and Alabama from everyone else. Later in the season, their 2nd and 3rd string become starters and neither miss a beat. John Morgan was the next man up and has exceeded expectations. Nate Yarnell, C’bo, Carter, Blake, all got the call.
See you for Rhode Island.

Our kids do realize they are play away from next man up. Our coaches have done a good job preparing the entire depth chart to understand that and prepare for it in every practice. That has been a big part of the recent Pitt success.

It is probably best for Dayon to get the surgery done, rather than playing at less than 100% this season.

That sucks for Dayon. I feel for him! He was really starting to shine.
Is Deslin ready to go this week or next, we will need him soon?
Where is Donald???
