PITTSBURGH — Four Pitt players spoke to the press following the win over Rhode Island on Saturday. This included redshirt senior defensive back M.J. Devonshire, junior running back Abanikanda, senior quarterback Kedon Slovis and junior defensive lineman Calijah Kancey.
Devonshire scored a punt return on a touchdown to open the scoring for the Panthers. He is the first Pitt player to return a punt and an interception for a touchdown in the same season since Darrelle Revis in 2006. Both Devonshire and Revis played at Aliquippa High School.
Abanikanda rushed 19 times for 177 yards and four touchdowns. The 177 yards and four rushing touchdowns are the most in his collegiate career and is the most rushing touchdowns in a game for a Pitt player since Darrin Hall against North Carolina in 2017.
Slovis started at quarterback in his return from injury against URI and completed 20 of his 27 passes for 189 yards in the win.
Kancey made three total tackles and 1.5 sacks in the win against the Rams.
