Pitt redshirt junior defensive lineman Calijah Kancey earned a spot on the CBS Sports Midseason All-American Team released on Tuesday.

Kancey is one of three defensive linemen on the 27-player squad, along with juniors Tuli Tuipulotu of USC and Felix Anudike-Uzomah of Kansas State. He is also just one of three ACC players on the team, with NC State graduate kicker Christopher Dunn and Miami sophomore wide receiver Key’Shawn Smith, making it on as a kick returner, joining him.

After a productive 2021 season that saw him make the first team All-ACC and the third team AP All-American, Kancey is continuing to play as one of the best defensive linemen in the country.

He currently leads the Panthers and is level for third in the ACC with 8.5 tackles for loss. He also is first on the team with six quarterback hurries and ranks second on the team with three sacks. Kancey’s game average of 1.4 tackles for loss is 17th in Division I.

Kancey earned a place on the preseason All-ACC team as well as, a variety of preseason All-American Teams, including Sporting News, Walter Camp, and Athlon Sports. He is also a candidate for more accolades this season, with many nominations this preseason. This includes the Walter Camp Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Outland Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award and the Lott Impact Trophy.
