Pitt P Sam Vander Haar Doesn’t Make Louisville Trip

Published

on

LOUISVILLE — It’s been a rough start to Sam Vander Haar’s Pitt career, as he ranks toward the bottom of every metric in the ACC and has had two punt blocks, and now he hasn’t made the trip to Louisville.

Pitt’s travel roster features Cam Guess and Caleb Junko, and as Guess has been listed as Vander Haar’s backup since the beginning of the season, it’s likely Guess who will make his Pitt debut as a punter.

Guess and Junko are both walk-ons who have never taken a punting snap in their short Pitt careers, but Guess has seen the field as a place-holder this season.

It’s not ideal situation for Pitt to have to break in a new punter on the road against Louisville, but punting has been an area this season where Pitt has needed to see an improvement.

Without Vander Haar, whose reason for not making the trip isn’t specified, it will likely be Guess who is tasked with providing a spark in special teams.

He’s the worst punter in the ACC and possibly one of the worst in power 5 football. Maybe that has something to do with him not traveling.

Sometimes a guy is having a really bad night and the best thing you can do is sit him down. Slovis was throwing late into coverage, missing checkdowns,, had no sense of time. And you leave him in. After two turnovers, he has got sit. Wake up. There are other players that aren’t rattled and can make plays.
