Pitt redshirt senior defensive lineman Deslin Alexandre is active in the community in Pittsburgh and back in his home country in Haiti. For those efforts, Alexandre is one of 12 semifinalists for the Wuerffel Trophy, college football’s biggest award for community service.
Alexandre announced the Fifth Down Campaign in July. It is a partnership with the Pittsburgh Kids Foundation, with the goal of raising $50,000 in order to provide better schooling, food and more for children in Cap-Haitien, Haiti, where Alexandre is from. The money raised so far is only about 10% of the way, $9,720.
He also is active in many other areas of community service. He works with veterans, is active in both improving literacy and voter registration and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Alexandre, along with redshirt juniors in defensive lineman Calijah Kancey and defensive back Brandon Hill, served lunch at Ronald McDonald House Pittsburgh in August.
Alexandre also visited students at Dilworth Elementary and Sacred Heart Elementary and thanked them for their help with the Fifth Down Campaign.

Alexandre is currently looking to stay healthy the rest of the season as injuries have prevented him from playing full-time. He made 16 tackles and two sacks in his five pages this season for Pitt.
