PITTSBURGH — After Wednesday night’s victory over Edinboro (exhibition), Pitt head coach Jeff Capel told reporters that John Hugley and William Jeffress will not be available for Pitt’s season opener against UT Martin.
“I know they won’t be available,” Capel said when asked about the availability of Jeffress and Hugley on Monday.
Hugley injured his knee in practice on Oct. 2, while Jeffress injured his foot back on Sept. 13. Pitt announced that Jeffress would be sidelined for six weeks at the time, but now with Jeffress out, that updated timetable is unknown.
Last season, Hugley earned All-ACC Honorable Mention honors after averaging 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Jeffress appeared in 31 games, averaging 3.4 points and 3.3 rebounds.
Pitt opens its season on Monday, Nov. 7 at home against UT Martin.
And so it begins….
