2023 4-Star Quarterback Kenny Minchey De-Commits From Pitt

Published

on

Kenny Minchey has changed his mind and that isn’t good news for Pitt.

Just a week after telling PSN that he would be enrolling early at Pitt, the 4-star quarterback from Tennessee has announced that he’s changed his mind and is decommitting from Pitt.

This is a shocking and devastating blow to Pitt’s 2023 recruiting class and could have a huge ripple effect on others.

Here was the statement that Minchey released on Twitter.

“I want to thank Coach Narduzzi, Coach Cignetti, Coach DiBiaso, and the rest of the coaching staff at Pitt for believing in me and providing me with an opportunity to play college football. After prayer and conversation with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of Pittsburgh. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me through this hard decision.”

The rumors about Minchey possibly de-committing started shortly after receiving an offer from Notre Dame months ago but he has repeatedly reaffirmed his commitment to Pitt.

Minchey’s recruiting profile shot upward following his performance at the Elite 11 camp in June, when he rose to 4-star status.

All signs point toward Minchey heading to South Bend as he’s rumored to be making an official visit there this coming weekend.

Pitt will take on Notre Dame next year as they travel to South Bend for the fourth game of the season.

The question now is what will Pitt do in terms of recruiting a quarterback this season? With National Letter of Intent less than a month away, do they try and sign one before then or in February or look to once again add through the transfer portal?

Once thing seems certain, recruiting the quarterback position for the Class of 2024 will be huge and will likely include multiple players.

So what changed in a week? Enrolling early to de-committing. De-committing in September when ND offered would be understandable. Now – something smells fishy.

It’s called NIL money which ND obviously has more than Pitt, which it should be a set amount for all schools and divided evenly amongst all of the programs at each university. As a diehard Pitt fan, I’ll admit I’m disappointed, but not surprised with the way the season has gone. But the thing that bothers me most is that he straight up lied to/spit in the face of PSN, Narduzzi, the university and the fan base by saying he was 100% committed, signing and enrolling early. As far he goes, don’t let the door hit you where god split… Read more »

I’m not exactly a fan of Slovis’s play, but calling him a p.o.s. seems a bit extreme. Relax.

He’s scared when he gets the ball, can’t read the defense let alone make his progressions. He hasn’t looked good since the wvu game and even then he wasn’t that good

If you’re a diehard Pitt fan….calling Slovis a pos is not cool at all.
Actually Pitt was lucky to get him, considering what’s on the roster.
And the fact he wasn’t great this year could come back and benefit Pitt greatly NEXT year. And if you recall Pickett wasn’t very good until his last year.

His in game plan\y, has nothing to do with his character. By all accounts he seems like a nice kid.

I knew this was going to happen as soon as Notre dame offered. This is just another reminder of how great a job Narduzzi is doing. It’s next to impossible to get top recruits to come to pitt and Narduzzi still keeps the program moving forward. Addison leaves as soon as he has a good year. Minchey and the other receiver recruit leave as soon as other teams come knocking. Thank god that Narduzzi is here and not looking to leave or else pitt would never play any games of relevance. Days like this make being a pitt fan so… Read more »

Narduzzi does some good things…..but his refusal to see that his best 2 seasons at Pitt were when they ran Spread Offenses and avg’d scoring over 40 ppg and after last season when Pitt was No. 2 or 3 in the nation in scoring and him deciding to change the offense to a run oriented offense in the Age of the Spread is just either really stupid or really stubborn or both.

moving forward? Didn’t they regress this year with a ton of talent?

It’s happening all over the country. Just internet search “Decommits” … as nearly as sad as “Blessed to Receive an Offer from…”. Flighty generation of athletes. As bad as AAU travel basketball bouncing around on rosters.
Colin Houck in Georgia is on the Radar I hope, his MaxPreps video summaries from games look good. He is yet uncommitted. Maybe we flip the script, pun intended, on Ryan Browne a Milford Prep NY commit to Purdue. His tape on Maxpreps looks better than Minchey.

A lot happens between June and December;
(A.) Elite 11 and Manning Academy
(B.) HS FB Season
(C.) College FB Season
(D.) and the worst, Social Media chatter
…
Narduzzi ain’t getting 4-Stars and 5-Stars like Mack Brown and Dabo Swinney is getting. But he Coaches up what he is getting pretty well. PITT might not have the W/L record we the fanbase would love to have. However the NFL talent is on exhibit and some great ones have played for PITT.

Minchey played it right out Addison’s playbook. Where’s the money?
Think the Alabamas, Georgias, LSUs are going to accept a ceiling on what they can spend on kids? You got another think coming.
Bet the kid ends up somewhere else, $$$$$, like USC.

The OC at Pitt is most of the problem in losing minchey and Addison. The word is out. Players talk. Probably will lose our tight end Bartholomew too. He will transfer because of our OC. Can you blame him?

Read the reviews on our former OC at Nebraska. Not very complimentary. We should have known integrating a new OC wasn’t going to be seamless. Parts appear to be falling in place now.

How many of these decommits we see actually have “prayer and conversation with family” after being “blessed to receive…)

How about just say, “aftah evaluatin’ the dough on each NIL deal, ima going to Notre Dame to ball out ya’all”

It’s okay we’ll still have Cignetti and Slovis those 2 are Coach Pat’s guys.
Scared one away.
Good call coach

That Coach/QB conversation comment makes a lot more sense now. About Slovis staying on playing 1 more year.
Beg him to stay now. And improve I hope.

I got the inside scoop. Slovis and Patti move on. Israel goes Pro. Rodney Gallagher Decommits from WVU and comes to PITT to Run the Speed Option.

With this pro-set of the 1990’s boring offense Pitt runs…just incredulous stupid play calling (think the Wayne pass cross-field that was easily intercepted & the wildcat plays in the last game), if I was any kind of QB…..I’d pass on Pitt too !

Of course this was going to happen. When ND wants you it’s tough to turn down, especially attending a Catholic HS. I’m just surprised Tennessee isn’t getting a look, especially with that offense.

Well, the kid showed no interest in ND over the past three months. Just stated that he was 100% Pitt plus enrolling early, so he ether flat out lied or something happened in the last few days that none of us are aware of.

he let on that he didn’t have interest, but what is he going to say? I don’t even think he will go to ND..word is out now so he used pitt as a placeholder. An ND commit will get others to notice and probably poke around. The only other conclusion is Duzz told him Slovis is coming back and “he’s still my guy” so he left. Possibly NIL, but he’s not Arch Manning and ND typically doesn’t pull the Miami, A&M or USC and break the bank since they view themselves as better than everyone and it’s a privilege to… Read more »

Who is the other player the Die Hard section is stating will be visiting another school? It’s starting, losing commits and transfers on the way

Commitment and your word mean nothing in our society. Money rules everything. Glade he prayed on it and is going to a catholic school that loves to steal Pitt players. Hypocrisy at its best. 💰💰💩💩🤮

its free agency every year in NCAA Football, including coaches. I get why you take commitments early but it’s mostly a placeholder until you get a bigger offer (unless your first offer is OSU, Bama or Georgia). Until they sign on the line that is dotted you always run the risk. What I also don’t understand is duzz telling commits if they visit somewhere else then they must decommit? If this is true it’s puzzling…if this is true, what leverage does he have to do this? I know other coaches do this but pitt isn’t in a position to do… Read more »

I believe it’s time to give Nate Yarnell a real shot. He showed accuracy, poise, and leadership in his start against W. Michigan. He also seems like a great, and loyal, kid.

Pickett had 13 TD and 9 INT the year before his 5th year. A lot of the same people on here commenting about Slovis are the same ones who wanted Pickett to be replaced. I would think Slovis would do much better in his 5th year and in his second year in this system. Ok, I’ll admit the system isn’t that complicated but still more time will help. And for all the people who say last year wasn’t Narduzzi at all and it was because of Pickett, you are forgetting who saw enough in him to remain loyal to Pickett… Read more »

Nardi’s mantra from day 1 has been bring-in a transfer qb and roll the die…the only qb developed in his tenure has been KP and that happened under Whipple’s guidance.
