Pitt head coach Jeff Capel said Monday that junior forward John Hugley is likely to play this week.
The team travels to take on No. 20 Michigan in the Legends Classic at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn N.Y. on Wednesday Nov. 16 at 6 p.m.
Hugley suffered a knee injury during practice in early October, which sidelined him from the two exhibition games, the two opening games of this season last week and practice up until Monday.
He led the Panthers in scoring and rebounding last season, scoring 14.8 points per game and averaging 7.9 rebounds per contest. Hugley earned an All-ACC Honorable Mention for his performance last season.
Pitt Basketball tweeted a picture of practice Monday and showed Hugley in uniform and matching up with sophomore center Federiko Federiko.
The Panthers really need Hugley back if they want to take a win from a tough team in the Wolverines. With an important win on Wednesday, the Panthers will face off against the VCU Rams or the Arizona State Sun Devils, in hopes of winning their first Legends Classic since 2013.
If Hugley doesn’t play for a few games it’s not the end of the world. Better to be sure he’s 100%.
That is not what they said after the West Virginia game.
