Pitt’s 2023 wide receiver depth chart is a bit uncertain right now.
Over the last month, Pitt has seen Jaylon Barden and Jaden Bradley enter the transfer portal, two members of its Class of 2023 de-commit and could possibly lose Jared Wayne, its best receiver, to the NFL Draft.
So, it goes without saying that the Pitt coaches are looking to not only bring in some receivers via the high school route but also through the transfer portal.
On Thursday, Pitt extended an offer to South Florida sophomore wide receiver Jimmy Horn, Jr., a player who is receiving a ton of attention from other programs.
Horn Jr., who earned All-AAC first-team honors as a kick returner, announced his decision to transfer from South Florida on Tuesday.
In the last 24 hours, Horn has received offers from Virginia Tech, Penn State, West Virginia and Missouri.
As a second-season sophomore, Horn caught 37 passes for 551 yards and two touchdowns in 11 games — finishing second on the team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. In two seasons at South Florida, Horn racked up 67 catches for 959 yards and four touchdowns.
Horn will have two seasons of eligibility at his next destination.
Pitt landed two starters in Konata Mumpfield (Akron) and Bub Means (Louisiana Tech) last year, and while neither player put together a season that was expected, both will be in the plans this season. And there will likely be a couple of wide receivers brought into the program — especially if Wayne decides to leave.
Let’s hope he likes blocking
Not sure if you’ve noticed, but Wayne has over 1000 yds this year! We just need receivers that can catch and Slovis is comfortable throwing to.
