With the loss of tight end Kyi Wright, Pitt has offered a talented player that’s looking to transfer.
A.J. Barner is a 6-foot-6 250-pound tight end that made the decision to transfer from Indiana on Dec. 4. Since making that announcement, Barner has attracted interest and received offers from schools such as Pitt, Michigan, UCLA, NC State and Illinois.
In his two seasons in Indiana, Barner caught 42 passes for 361 yards and found the end zone four times.
In an interview with Allen Trieu from 247Sports, Barner said, “I visited UCLA this past weekend and I’m planning on visiting Pitt, Michigan, and NC State this weekend.” Barner also noted that he’s talking with Alabama and is getting a visit this week from Ole Miss.
Offensive Coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. may be looking to get two pass-catching tight ends involved in his offense and pair Barner with Gavin Bartholomew.
Barner, who was a 2022 team captain at Indiana, will have two years of eligibility left.
Barner is a native of Aurora, Ohio and was a three-star member of the Hoosiers class of 2020.
