Berrong (6’3″, 243-pounds) injured his ACL during his freshman season and only played in one game for the Fighting Irish this year. Berrong is a former 3-star recruit in the Class of 2021 and signed with Brian Kelly and Notre Dame over other offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, USC, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.
Berring will have three seasons of athletic eligibility remaining.
Pitt has been active in trying to add another tight end to the 2023. They extended offers to two transfers, Colorado State’s Tanner Arkin, who committed on Wednesday to Illinois and Indiana’s A.J. Barner, who was expected to visit at some point this week.
