Recruits React to Pitt Win Over UNC: “It Was an Unbelievable Atmosphere”

As Pitt took down North Carolina in front of a loud Petersen Events Center on Friday, there were several very important fans in attendance sitting behind the basket.

Recruits from all classes were in attendance after being invited down by Pitt. Two five stars, two four stars, some of the best young local prospects were in the building.

The Pittsburgh area’s prized five-star recruits in the class of 2025 — Meleek Thomas (Lincoln Park) and Alier Maluk (Imani Christian) both made the trip down to Oakland. Brandin Cummings, a four star (and the younger brother of Pitt PG Nelly Cummings) was there as he always is to watch his brother play. Four-star guard Jalil Bethea from Philly, who was in the area for a high-school hoops event over the past few days, was also there.

“The atmosphere was amazing,” Thomas told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “So many North Carolina fans and Pitt fans all in one environment so that was good. It was a high-level matchup, very highly anticipated and a great game to be at.”

Local recruits Peter Kramer and Amere Brown were watching as well.

“The atmosphere at the Pitt game was amazing,” said Brown, a 2025 recruit out of Woodland Hills. “Great experience and a lot of energy. I was very excited to watch a big-time win.”

“It was an unbelievable atmosphere,” Kramer, a 2024 recruit out of Hampton said. “It was great to sit near the Pitt bench to see the emotion of the players, coaches, and the Zoo in a great game. “

While Pitt signee Carlton Carrington was initially supposed to make the trip, he could not make it after he had his own game in New York. However, Carrington’s father made sure the Pitt faithful knew that they would be back.

“Sorry we couldn’t make it,” Carrington’s father said in a tweet. “See ya next time. H2P.”
