After keeping things within striking distance for much of the game, Duquesne women’s basketball (11-4, 1-2) were outscored 17-8 in the fourth quarter en route to a 61-45 loss to George Mason (9-7, 2-1).
Things started strong for Duquense as they got off to a 9-2 lead within the game’s first four minutes, however George Mason would go on a 9-1 run to take a 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.

George Mason didn’t relinquish the lead once they took it. They would go on to score the first six points of the second quarter and go up 18-10. Eventually that lead would extend to as much as 17 points midway through the third quarter.
Duquense would go on a 15-1 run to pull back within three points at 39-36 and only trail by seven at the end of the quarter. However, as stated above, George Mason controlled the tempo in the fourth and finished with the 61-45 win.
It was a rough night shooting for both teams as they combined for 37-for-113 (32.7%) from the field and 13-for-54 (24.1%) from three-point range. Duquesne especially struggled, as they went 15-for-53 (28.3%) from the field and 6-for-23 (26.1%) from three-point range.
Duquesne was led in scoring by Nealle Bernard (15) who was joined in double-digits by Tess Myers (11). Megan McConnell had another double-digit rebound night with 12.
Duquesne will look to rebound in A-10 play against St. Bonaventure (3-15, 0-3) this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
