2024 4-Star TE Dylan Mesman Names Pitt to Top 10

If there’s an area that Pitt needs to recruit, it’s tight end.

There’s a star on the roster in Gavin Bartholomew already, but Pitt didn’t land a tight end in the class of 2023. And there hasn’t yet been an addition from the transfer portal.

Bartholomew has all the potential in the world, but in a perfect world, he’d be paired with another veteran tight end in the offense. Dylan Mesman may not help this season, but he’d certainly be an option in the future.

Mesman, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound four-star tight end from Saline High in Saline, Michigan, announced a Top Ten Sunday that includes Minnesota, Cincinnati, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Maryland, Duke, Kentucky, Auburn and Pitt.

Mesman picked up an offer from Pitt back in September, after a phone call with defensive backs coach Archie Collins, and it’s only been up from there. In terms of on-field performance and his Pitt relationship.

A strong junior season earned Mesman All-Ann Arbor honors, as he worked with future Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr at Saline.

247Sports rates Mesman as the 235th-ranked recruit in the class (14th-ranked tight end and the eighth-ranked recruit from Michigan) while Rivals rates him as the 11th-ranked tight end and seventh-ranked recruit from Michigan.

247Sports already projects Mesman as a Michigan State lean, but Rivals and On3 haven’t yet made a declaration.

Pitt didn’t land a tight end in the class of 2022 or 2023, and a couple of transfer portal targets have ended up elsewhere. Mesman may be a long shot out of Michigan, but he comes at a position that Pitt needs to recruit.
