Pitt volleyball added a new piece to their team for next season on Monday, in Virginia Tech graduate transfer Logan Mosley.
Mosley announced her commitment to the Panthers in an Instagram post that said, “Next stop -> Pittsburgh!! So excited for this new adventure and to be a Pitt Panther! 💙💛”
Mosley played four seasons for the Hokies from 2019-22, as a libero/defensive specialist. She made a career high 507 digs in her first year as a Hokie in 2019, which included a career-best 39 digs in a game against Davidson. Mosley started a career high 26 matches and played in a career high 31 matches in her first year.
She didn’t start a game the next two seasons, although she did make 409 digs as a junior in 2021. Mosley started 17 matches and played in 29 in 2022, as Virginia Tech finished 11-18 overall and 4-14 in ACC play.
Mosley will compete next season for playing time with liberos/defensive specialists in rising junior Emmy Klika and rising sophomore Dillyn Griffin. Senior Ashley Browske chose to graduate following the 2022 season and to not use an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Klika originally sat behind Browske, but started the final two games of the regular season and the five matches in the NCAA Tournament as Pitt made it back-to-back appearances in the Final Four. She made a career high 17 digs against then ranked No. 13 Georgia Tech on Nov. 23 and 16 digs in the Elite Eight victory over No. 1 Wisconsin.
Griffin functioned as a serve specialist for the Panthers in 2022, using her strong, left-handed delivery to force opponents to serve out of system.
Both players showed support for Mosley on her Instagram post. Klika commented, “YAY!!! Welcome to the fam💙💛” and Griffin commented, “YAY! Can’t wait💙💙💙💙.”
Many other Pitt players showed support for Mosley as well. This included rising junior outside hitter Julianna Dalton, rising graduate setter Lexis Akeo, rising junior setter Rachel Fairbanks, rising sophomore middle blocker Rachel Jepsen and rising redshirt senior outside hitter Valeria Vasquez Gomez.
With the addition of Mosley, Pitt has three liberos/defensive specialists on the team for the 2023 season. For the roster as a whole, Pitt now has 13 players in eight returning players, four incoming first years and Mosley.
They have spots open to boost their middle blocking position and potentially a right-side hitter in the coming weeks, as the transfer portal starts to heat up across college volleyball.
