2023 3-Star DE Chamberlain Campbell Places Pitt in Top Two Ahead of Signing Day

While the class of 2024 has shifted to the forefront of the recruiting world since December’s Signing Day, there are still a few top recruits from the class of 2023 who haven’t signed yet.

One of those is 2023 three-star defensive end Chamberlain Campbell from Lakewood High in St. Petersburg, Florida. Campbell (6-foot-7, 215 pounds) will decide between Pitt and Ole Miss on Feb. 1, Rivals’ Ryan Wright reported.

Campbell received offers from Auburn, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, James Madison, Kansas, Liberty, Louisville, Miami, Michigan State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Pitt, Rutgers, and South Florida during his recruiting process.

But when it comes to the end game of his recruitment, two recent official visits — Pitt on Jan. 21 and Ole Miss on Jan. 27 — will decide where he ends up.

While Campbell hasn’t posted much about his relationship with Pitt, he told Wright that Pitt was one of his first offers.

“They were one of my first couple of offers, we’ve always had that relationship,” Campbell told Rivals’ Ryan Wright. “They have come up to my school, sat me down, and it was interesting when we watched film together. They showed where I would fit in their defense and their development process.”

Campbell is a huge defensive end in terms of his height, but he has the sort of frame that will sustain added muscle mass — and he will need to bulk up. He was very productive at Lakewood, where he was teammates with Pitt signee Montravius Lloyd.

As a senior at Lakewood, Campbell racked up 45 tackles (13 solo), 15 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three pass breakups, forced a fumble and recovered one.

247Sports rates Campbell as the 85th-ranked edge rusher and the 128th-ranked recruit from Florida. Rivals rates him as the 40th-ranked weakside defensive end in the class — giving him a 5.7 Rivals Rating.

On3 rates him as the 661st-ranked recruit in the class (46th-ranked edge rusher and the 61st-ranked recruit from Florida).

Signing Day is on Wednesday, and Campbell will decide between Pitt and Ole Miss.

Pitt secured signings from four-star defensive lineman Isaiah Neal, three-star defensive end Antonio Camon and three-star defensive end Maverick Gracio already in the class of 2023.

How is Pitt even mentioned with this guy? From everything I’ve read, Pitt isn’t even on the RADAR. How are the Panthers considered on the “top 2”?

He’s going to Ole Miss.

At that age they just want the best football experience (even though they thank god and mention academics often)
