Pitt Breaks Program Record For Three-Pointers Made in a Single Season

Pitt’s storybook 2022-23 season continued to rack up memorable milestones Saturday night, defeating Syracuse 99-82. Jeff Capel’s team broke the program record for three-pointers made in a season with 264. 

A Blake Hinson triple at the 19:22 mark of the second half gave the Panthers a 40-34 lead and officially broke the record. 

The Panthers finished the game 16-of-41 from behind the arc and sit at 274 made triples on the year. Blake Hinson made six threes on 17 attempts while Greg Elliott sunk 5-of-11. Hinson has made 80 threes this season and is shooting 38% behind the arc. He also scored his 1,000th career point in the victory. 

Nelly Cummings and Nike Sibande both made two along with one from Jamarius Burton to seal a blowout victory. Pitt also set the program record for threes made in a single game with 18 against Wake Forest on Jan. 25. The Panthers entered play shooting 35.7% overall from behind the arc and averaging the 26th most threes per game (9.2) in all of college basketball.

What year, and who were the players that held the old record?

Had to look it up…can’t believe it’s correct, but the official media guide lists the 2017 team as the previous leader with 263 made threes. Assume that would be the 2017-2018 team which was terrible under Kevin Stallings.
