A day after winning ACC Coach of the Year honors, Jeff Capel is a finalist for another coaching award.
Capel has been named as a finalist for the 2022-23 Ben Jobe National Coach of the Year award.
The Ben Jobe Award is presented annually to the top D-1 minority coach.
Capel engineered Pitt’s dramatic turnaround which started with his masterful job adding talent through the transfer portal.
After being picked to finish near the bottom again in the ACC, Pitt (21-10/14-6) was a late season win away from being co-champions of the ACC, which would’ve been the first in program history.
Capel is one of 25 finalists for the Ben Jobe Award, which will be presented later in March in Houston, the site of the men’s NCAA Basketball Championship.
Other notable finalists include Amir Abdur-Rahim/Kennesaw State, Speedy Clayton/Hofstra, Ed Cooley/Providence, Anfeenee Hardaway/Memphis, James Jones/Yale, Ritchie McKay/Liberty, Kelvin Sampson/Houston, Shaka Smart/Marquette, Jerry Stackhouse/Vanderbilt, Jerome Tang/Kansas State and Rodney Terry/Texas.
