Jeff Capel’s success at Pitt this season is getting recognized nationally as he’s a finalist for yet another coach of the year award.

Capel has been named as a finalist for the 2022-23 Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year award.

This news comes on the heels of Capel being named ACC Coach of the Year and being named a finalist for the Ben Jobe Award.

Pitt’s 10-win improvement from last season is tied for the fourth best in program history, while its 8-game win increase in conference play is a new school record. The 2022-23 Panthers also set program records for ACC wins (14), three-point field goals (292), and three-point attempts (811).

Pitt opens up ACC Tournament play this afternoon against Georgia Tech, with a tipoff scheduled for 2:30 PM.

nice to be considered. we’ve had a great season but the Phelan and the Jobe will be much harder to secure than ACC COY. H2P !
