Isaiah Nesmith flipped his commitment from Rutgers to Pitt, following wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood, last spring as a walk-on in the class of 2022.
Nesmith, a 6-foot-4, 185-pound wide receiver originally from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, redshirted as a freshman and did not see the field. He won’t ever see the field at Pitt now as he’s announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal.
“First and foremost I would like to thank Coach Narduzzi and the University of Pittsburgh for giving me the opportunity to do what I love. I would to thank Coach Tiquan Underwood, Alex Kline, and the whole strength staff for shaping me into a better person on and off the field and treating me like family during my journey. With that being said I will be entering the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility.”
There was not a clear path to playing time for Nesmith at Pitt, even though he appeared to be a decently impressive walk-on during his brief time in Pittsburgh, so he’ll likely look for an opportunity where he’ll be able to hit the field.
Pitt has a plethora of walk-on wide receivers in Jake McConnachie, Lorenzo Jenkins, Caden Smith, Peter Vardzel, Isaiah Stewart and Josh Junko already on the roster and added 2023 preferred walk-on Benny Haselrig.
