Die-Hards: Pitt Receiving Visit From JUCO Defensive Back

Published

on

It’s always a positive when a team is able to return every player on its two-deep (three-deep in this case) at a certain position, but while it may seem otherwise in the current age of college football, guys can’t stay forever.

When you return a group that features M.J. Devonshire, Marquis Williams, A.J. Woods and Rashad Battle (with Ryland Gandy and Noah Biglow waiting in the wings), it’s a perfect mix of returning production and depth. However, there’s a high possibility that Devonshire, Williams and Woods won’t be around after next season.

There are a plethora of young, high-upside guys on the roster, in addition to Gandy and Biglow, and their time will arrive. But the transfer portal allows for an older, veteran presence to be added immediately. As Pitt did last season with Tylar Wiltz and Karter Johnson.

So, a JUCO cornerback visitor this spring — while it may be unfair to project a one-time junior college guy to replicate someone like Wiltz’s impact — is someone to watch.
