Pitt has added another preferred walk-on to its class of 2023, plucking a rangy athlete from the other side of the state.

Zach Zollers, a 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete from Spring-Ford High School in Royersford, Pennsylvania, announced Friday night that he committed to Pitt as a PWO.

“I am happy to announce that I will be accepting a preferred walk-on to the University of Pittsburgh! Thank you to all the coaches that recruited me. Thank you coach Partridge for the opportunity!!”

Zollers held an offer from Marist and received interest from Stonehill and Bryant in the recruiting process.

As a 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete, who was recruited by defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, it will be interesting to see where Zollers ends up at Pitt. He’s flashed his ability both ways at the high school level. He has the ideal build for a linebacker in Pitt’s system, especially at Star with his prior wide receiver experience.

Zollers was a two-way star at Spring-Ford, racking up 610 yards and eight touchdowns on 44 receptions as a wideout and adding 63 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, six sacks, eight pass breakups, four forced fumbles and two recoveries — and he blocked three punts and two field goals.

He’s also a standout basketball player, helping to lead Spring-Ford to the District 1-6A final earlier this month.

Pitt has added quarterback David Lynch (Bradenton, Florida) and twin offensive linemen Brody and Graysen Riffe (Winter Garden, Florida) and wide receiver Benny Haselrig (Allison Park, Pennsylvania) already.

There may be another PWO or two added to the roster before the season kicks off in September.
