Duquesne accepted a bid to play in this seasons’ College Basketball Invitational (CBI), continuing their season.

The Dukes finished with an overall record of 20-12 and 10-8 in Atlantic 10 play in the 2022-23 season. They improved 14 wins overall and nine wins from the 2021-22 season, where the Dukes had a 6-24 overall record and 1-16 record in the Atlantic 10.

Duquesne earned a No. 6 seed and a First Round bye in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. They lost their matchup in the Second Round against No. 11 La Salle last Wednesday, March 8, at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., ending their long shot chances at an NCAA Tournament appearance.

The Dukes received a No. 5 seed in the CBI and will take on No. 12 Rice on Sunday, March 19 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Round. The entire CBI will take place at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. from Saturday, March 18 to Wednesday, March 22.

FloHoops will stream the First Round from March 18-19 and the Quarterfinals on Monday, March 20. ESPN2 will broadcast the Semifinals on Tuesday, March 21 and the Final on March 22.

The 2023 CBI consists of 16 teams that will play in a single-elimination bracket. If Duquesne is to win the CBI, they will need to win four consecutive games in four consecutive days from the First Round to the Final.

This is the fourth time that the Dukes will play in the CBI, previously doing so in 2010, 2011 and in 2016. This is the first postseason for the Dukes since that CBI appearance in 2016 and the first under head coach Keith Dambrot in his six seasons as head coach. This is also just the sixth appearance in the postseason in the last 42 seasons for the Dukes.

The Dukes are 2-3 in the CBI, winning in the First Round and losing in the Second Round in both 2011 and 2016, while losing in the First Round in 2010.

This is the seventh matchup between Duquesne and Rice. Duquesne holds a 5-2 record against Rice, with a win in the last matchup in November 2008.

Duquesne played against one other opponent in the CBI and that is No. 1 Indiana State, who they defeated at home, 92-86, on Dec. 17.
