The Pitt Panthers are returning to March Madness. Pitt received a No. 11 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament and will play Mississippi State in Dayton, Ohio, Tuesday night beginning at 9 p.m.

The Panthers return to the Big Dance for the first time since the 2015-16 season and first under head coach Jeff Capel in his fifth season.

Capel’s team will play in a First Four game as one of the Last Four In selected by the tournament committee. The winner faces No. 6 Iowa State Friday in Greensboro, North Carolina, where the Panthers just completed the ACC Tournament on Thursday.

Pitt ranks No. 67 in the NET rankings and edged out North Carolina and Clemson to become the final ACC team to make the Field of 68. The team finished 2022-23 fifth in the ACC after posting a 22-11 overall record and 14-6 conference mark, failing to win one of its final two games with the opportunity to win a share of the ACC regular-season title.

The team fell 96-69 Thursday to No. 4 Duke following a Second Round win against No. 13 Georgia Tech, 89-81, the day before. Pitt is the No. 44 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
