PITTSBURGH – Wednesday’s news and notes involve two Miami players entering the transfer portal and updates on two North Carolina forwards, one finding a new landing spot and another scheduling visits with interested schools.

Miami’s Anthony Walker, Danilo Jovanovich Enter Transfer Portal

Fourth-year junior forward Anthony Walker is transferring from the Miami Hurricanes. The most notable Miami transfer to date, the 6-foot-9 Walker averaged 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds in 37 games (one start) including five NCAA Tournament games, helping the program reach the Final Four. In four seasons with Miami, Walker played best during the 2020-21 campaign. Walker started 16 of the 26 games he appeared in, scoring 9.6 points and grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 42% from the floor. He scored six total points in two games against Pitt this season.

Freshman Danilo Jovanovich is also entering the portal, both according to Verbal Commits. A 6-foot-8 forward from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Janovich was a four-star prospect out of Whitnall High School. He logged two minutes all year, playing against St. Francis Brooklyn on Nov. 23. 247Sports considered him the third-best prospect in the state entering college. Freshman center Favour Aire also entered the transfer portal earlier in the week.

North Carolina Transfer Forward Justin McKoy Commits to Hawaii

Former North Carolina forward Justin McKoy will be playing a long way from Chapel Hill next season. The Raleigh, N.C. native announced his commitment to Hawaii Tuesday following two seasons for the Tar Heels. McKoy played in 59 minutes over 11 games (one start) this year, He connected on six field goals, grabbed 13 rebounds, and totaled four blocks for head coach Hubert Davis.

McKoy played significantly more minutes last season (209), checking into 30 games off the bench during UNC’s National Championship appearance. He attended Virginia for his first two years of college ball before returning to North Carolina. Hawaii finished 22-11 overall and 13-7 in the Big West Conference, losing to Cal State Fullerton in their conference tournament.

UNC Transfer Will Shaver to Visit Three Programs

Dushawn London of 247Sports announced Wednesday that UNC forward Will Shaver will visit Belmont, Liberty, and UAB in the coming two weeks. A visit with the Virginia Cavaliers is also in the works. The 6-foot-10 redshirt freshman from Birmingham, Alabama, played six minutes spanning three games with the Heels. His two free throws in a four-overtime affair against Alabama were the only points he scored in a UNC uniform.

The former three-star recruit was an all-state honoree twice before enrolling early in January 2022. North Carolina will have a new look next season with guard Caleb Love, Puff Johnson, and other young players transferring plus Leaky Black and Pete Nance graduating. Armando Bacot and RJ Davis are both returning to the program after missing the NCAA Tournament.
