PITTSBURGH – The week has come to an end with additional news and notes filling headlines throughout the ACC. The Clemson Tigers will have a key player back for next season and continue to look for additional pieces. Auburn transfer Chase Westry is also hearing from the Syracuse Orange. Hunter Sallis, formerly of Gonzaga, has been contacted by two ACC programs.

Caleb Love Transfers from North Carolina to Michigan

Former North Carolina guard Caleb Love announced that he is transferring to Michigan on his Twitter Page on Friday.

Love averaged a career high 16.7 points per game as a junior last season. Despite an improvement in scoring as a junior, Love and the Tar Heels struggled, going 20-13 in 2022-23 season and missed the NCAA Tournament.

He rose to prominence during UNC’s run to the National Title game in 2022, as he averaged 18.8 points in six NCAA Tournament games. Love scored 28 points in a victory over rival Duke in the Final Four and 30 points over UCLA in the Sweet 16.

Love will join Michigan as a senior for the 2023-24 season with two years of eligibility left, if he chooses to use his COVID-19 year.

Alex Hemenway Returning to Clemson, Tigers Reach Out to Oklahoma State’s Avery Anderson

Clemson received a commitment to return for the 2023-24 season and has reached out to another Power 5 prospect about entering the program. Senior guard Alex Hemenway is returning to the Tigers for his fifth year of eligibility. The 6-foot-4 Hemenway averaged a career-high 6.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 20 games (12 starts). He also recorded nine steals and two blocks for Clemson, which finished 14-6 in the ACC but missed the NCAA Tournament. Hemenway is a 5.4 point per game scorer in four seasons, shooting 45% from the field and a career-best 50% last year.

The Tigers have also reached out to Oklahoma State 6-foot-3 guard Avery Anderson. The senior started all 22 games he played for the Cowboys, averaging over 28 minutes. He recorded 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 40% from the floor but 20% behind the arc. Anderson played four seasons for Oklahoma State before deciding to transfer for his fifth year of eligibility.

Auburn Transfer Chance Westry Hearing from Syracuse

Harrisburg native Chance Westry is receiving considerable interest in the transfer portal. The Auburn freshman guard is hearing from Syracuse and new head coach Adrian Autry. He has also received interest from Creighton, Penn State, Seton Hall, and St. John’s, according to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein. Westry averaged 9.2 minutes in 11 games played, scoring 27 total points and snagging eight steals.

The former four-star recruit was ranked No. 26 overall by Rivals and No. 32 according to ESPN while playing high school ball in Arizona. Prior to being a member of AZ Compass Prep School, Westry played for Sierra Canyon in California, known for producing top talent and currently home to LeBron James’ sons.

Gonzaga Transfer Hunter Sallis Contacted by Georgia Tech, Louisville

Sophomore guard Hunter Sallis is in the transfer portal after spending two seasons at Gonzaga. The 6-foot-5 Omaha, Nebraska native played in 28 games off the bench for the Zags this season. He averaged 4.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 16.5 minutes per contest during his second collegiate campaign. Sallis scored 10 fewer points than last season, shooting 56% from the floor in 32 games.

Georgia Tech and Louisville are both looking for fresh starts in ACC competition. The Yellow Jackets fired head coach Josh Pastner after being eliminated by Pitt in the conference tournament, replacing him with Damon Stoudamire. Louisville completed its worst season in program history (4-28, 2-18 ACC) under first-year head coach Kenny Payne. The Cardinals have to replace a plethora of players who entered the portal including forward Jae’Lyn Withers and guard El Ellis. Georgia Tech finished 13th in the ACC while the Cardinals ended in last.
