Since the end of their 2022-23 season, Jeff Capel and company have been working hard to fill a number of holes on their current roster.
The biggest one is in the backcourt due to the graduation of Jamarius Burton, Nelly Cummings, Nike Sibande and Greg Elliott.
Pitt has reached out to a number of players in the transfer portal and this weekend, they’ll host one of those players on an official visit.
Per Houston Wilson of Panther-lair, former Rhode Island transfer guard Ishmael Leggett will be in town for an official visit.
The 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Washington, D.C., averaged 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while shooting 43.6% from the field and 32% from 3-point range.
Leggett’s top individual performances from last season included a 30-point effort against George Washington in February, a 25-point game against Dayton and a season-high 34 points against Tulane, which included seven 3-pointers.
Prior to the hire of Archie Miller, Leggett entered the transfer portal a year ago, but ended up returning to Rhode Island for a third season. Leggett will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Along with Pitt, Arkansas, Georgia, Butler, Boston College, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Ohio State, Fordham, SMU and others have reached out to Leggett.
With the additions of point guards Dior Johnson and Jaland Lowe, Capel’s top priority is looking for players at shooting guard and wing. Leggett would obviously be a big addition at shooting guard.
