Pitt Once Again Pursuing MJ Rice, This Time in Transfer Portal

Published

on

Just days after Pitt picked up transfer commitment number one of the off-season, the Panthers’ basketball staff is still working hard to bring in more portal players for next year’s squad.

The latest development in Pitt’s portal activity is the recruitment of MJ Rice, a former five-star prospect who Pitt recruited heavily just over one year ago when he was a senior in high school.

Rice ended up committing to Kansas out of his prep career and played this season for the Jayhawks before entering the portal recently.

Rice, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound small forward, averaged 2.2 points per game as a freshman coming off the bench for Bill Self’s squad. Now that Rice is in the portal, Jason Jordan has reported that he is visiting NC State on Saturday to meet with Head coach Kevin Keatts and is also in the process of meeting with Pitt head coach Jeff Capel.

Capel hosted Rice on his official visit to Pitt in August 2021, prior to his senior year at Prolific Prep in California.

The Panthers are looking to fill three scholarships following the recent commitment of High Point transfer Zack Austin, a 6-foot-7 wing.
