PITTSBURGH – A date has been set for the 190th basketball edition of the Backyard Brawl. Pitt and West Virginia will meet in Morgantown on Dec. 6, marking the second-consecutive season the two rivals battle on the hardwood and the sixth in the past seven years. The programs did not meet during the 2020-21 COVID-19-affected season.
WVU defeated Pitt 81-56 on Nov. 11 inside the Petersen Events Center. The Mountaineers outscored the Panthers 34-20 in the second half after obtaining an 11-point halftime lead to power past the Panthers. Jamarius Burton (16) and Greg Elliott (12) led Pitt in scoring, while Erik Stevenson totaled 16 points. All three players have graduated.
The Panthers added High Point forward Zack Austin and Rhode Island guard Ishmael Leggett in the transfer portal and have two scholarships remaining. West Virginia signed Arizona guard Kerr Kriisa and Syracuse forward Jesse Edwards, among others, in one of the most successful offseasons of any program.
An official game time has yet to be released.Â
