Last spring, the Pitt coaching staff spotted a raw but talented sophomore quarterback from Florida.
After more evaluation and working him out, the Panthers became the first Power Five program to extend an offer to Trever Jackson from Winter Garden, Florida.

After getting the news, Jackson had this reaction about receiving his first major college offer.
“It feels really good to get that offer,” Jackson told PSN. “It was such a happy moment talking to the Pitt coaches. A really good moment. Yeah, every time I work out or perform, I’m looking to impress, and I was looking to do that at Pitt. Talking to coach before Pitt’s spring game, he said he saw me and was impressed so I knew going into this weekend that they were already looking at me. I wanted to have a good camp and I did.
“Afterwards, they told me that they really liked my feet and the timing of my passes. They also liked my release and my knowledge of the game of football, especially with the way that I know the coverages of the defenses. They liked how young I am to already know that and were impressed by that.”
The talent that Jackson possessed was quite apparent and that it was only a matter of time before more programs followed Pitt’s lead.
As a junior at West Orange, leading his squad to a district title (in 10 games), Jackson completed 96-of-162 pass attempts (59%) for 1,559 yards with 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions and added 306 yards (5.9 per) and six touchdowns on 52 carries.
Last month, Jackson decided to release a Top 5 that included Pitt, Tulane, Indiana, Florida Atlantic and Appalachian State but in all likelihood, that’s going to change.
In the last few weeks, the 3-star recruit added offers from Illinois, Texas A&M, Liberty and last night, Jackson’s latest offer came from Penn State.
Considering this national attention along with recently winning Rivals Camp Series QB MVP honors and being selected to compete in the Elite 11 Finals, look for the recruitment of Trever Jackson to continue to skyrocket.
