Head coach Tory Verdi has made an addition to his coaching staff at Pitt with the hiring of LaKale Malone as an assistant coach.

Malone has over 20 years of coaching experience, including stops at Indiana State, Illinois, Texas, Nebraska, Wagner and Bradley.

Verdi announced that Malone will be primarily working with the Pitt guards, an area in which she’s enjoyed much success during her coaching career working with players such as Bella Finnegan, Del’Janae Williams, Natalia Lalic, Chatrice White, Cierra Rice, Kyley Simmons, Brandi Beasley, Brittainey Raven and Chassidy Fussell.

“LaKale is one of the most experienced coaches out there,” said Verdi. “She brings so much knowledge to our program. She will primarily work with the guards and assist with all aspects of our program. She’s one of a kind when it comes to skill development and our players will be fortunate to work with her.”

Malone graduated from Indiana in 1999, where she was a four-year letter winner. She also earned a master’s degree from Nebraska.

Malone joins the Panthers assistant coaching staff that includes Candice Finley and Ty Margenthaler.
