PITTSBURGH – Thursday’s ACC News and Notes focus on major names in the basketball circuit, including the sons of former Duke and NBA star Carlos Boozer.
Notre Dame Forward Ven-Allen Lubin Commits to Vanderbilt
Freshman Ven-Allen Lubin told On3 Sports this week that he has committed to Vanderbilt. Lubin started seven of the 28 games he appeared in for Notre Dame last season. He averaged 6.2 points and 4.4 rebounds in over 17 minutes per game. Lubin scored a career-best 19 points in 32 minutes against Wake Forest on Feb. 25, making 9-of-13 field goals. The incoming sophomore totaled 10 points and 13 rebounds in a 12-point loss to St. Bonaventure in the early portion of non-conference play.
Vanderbilt ended the 2022-23 season 22-15 overall and 11-7 in SEC play, winning 14 games at home in 20 tries. The Commodores finished below .500 on the road (5-6) and missed out on the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
Kyle Cuffe Jr. Commits to Syracuse
The Orange has added a high-profile transfer to its 2023-24 roster. Redshirt freshman Kyle Cuffe Jr. has committed to Syracuse, he told On3. Cuffe Jr. redshirted during Kansas’ National Championship team in 2021-23 and tore his MCL and PCL after two games this season. He played six total minutes during his second season in the program. The 6-foot-2 guard was a four-star prospect out of Blair Academy and ranked No. 56 overall by Rivals.com. 2024 top prospect Donnie Freeman recently committed to Syracuse as well.
Louisville Forward Sydney Curry Commits to Grand Canyon
Former Louisville forward Sydney Curry has landed on the opposite side of the country. Curry announced his commitment to Grand Canyon on Thursday. The 6-foot-8, 270-pound Curry started 25 of 32 games during his senior season.
He averaged 4.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game and was named a team captain leading up to game action. Curry reached double-figure point totals on six occasions and shot 53.3% from the floor. Grand Canyon finished 24-12 overall and 11-7 in the WAC, winning the conference tournament against Southern Utah (84-66). The Lopes lost to Gonzaga in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 14 seed.
Cameron and Cayden Boozer, Sons of Duke Legend Carlos Boozer, Offered by Blue Devils
Duke and Jon Scheyer are trying to keep the program all in the family for the Boozers. Class of 2025 recruits Cameron and Cayden Boozer both received offers from Duke this week. Cameron ranks as the No. 1 high school player in the country by ESPN. The sons of legendary Duke and NBA forward Carlos Boozer, Cameron and Cayden are from Miami and have significant upside. Carlos now works as an analyst for the ACC Network after playing in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz, Chicago Bulls, and LA Lakers before retiring.
