Wrestler Anthony Santaniello, a member of the Class of 2023, announced his commitment to Pitt Thursday morning in a post on Instagram.
Pitt wrestling coverage on Pittsburgh Sports Now is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Wrestling Club.
Santaniello wrestled for Brick Memorial High school in Brick Township, N.J. where he saw great success. He accrued an overall record of 138-3 in his career, including a 40-0 record last season.
He finished  state-runner up at 106 pounds in 2020 and 132 pounds in 2022, while winning New Jersey State (NJSIAA) titles at 120 pounds in 2021, and 132 pounds in 2023.
Santaniello originally committed and signed his National Letter of Intent to wrestle for Oklahoma. Former Oklahoma head coach Lou Rosselli resigned from his position on April 5 and Santaniello asked for his release from the program.
The school eventually signed a new head coach in Roger Kish, but it took time for them to grant Santaniello his release. Once they did, he soon committed to Pitt.
Santaniello joins his brother Vincent, who redshirted last season, at Pitt, making them the second brother duo on the team. Holden and Reece Heller both started for Pitt at 165 pounds and 184 pounds, respectively, and made the NCAA Championships in March.
