A handful of talented freshman wide receivers will be joining the 2023 Pitt football team and offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti, Jr. will need a couple of them to step up to play an important role in the offense.

One of those young players put on quite a show, as he officially finished his high school career by participating in the annual Big 33 All-Star Game.

Pitt incoming freshman wide receiver Kenny Johnson (Dallastown High School-York, Pa.) earned Game MVP honors as Pennsylvania beat Maryland, 31-27.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Johnson finished the game with nine catches for 161 yards and a touchdown. That touchdown came with 1:15 left in the game and proved to be the game-winning score for Team Pennsylvania.

Johnson will be joined by fellow freshman Zion Fowler (Jersey City, N.J.), Israel Polk (Bellflower, Calif.) and Lamar Seymore (Miami, Fla.) in Pitt’s 2023 depth chart and will pushing for playing time as Pitt needs wide receivers to develop and be counted upon.
