WPIAL, KDKA Agree to Multi-Year Partnership for High School Football and Basketball



The WPIAL has partnered with 100.1 FM, AM-1020 Newsradio KDKA for a multi-year agreement to broadcast high school football and basketball throughout the region. 

Announced today by both the WPIAL and KDKA, the station will become the flagship home of local high school sports in Western Pennsylvania. The KDKA Radio Game of the Week will continue on Friday nights, and the station will air WPIAL football and boys and girls basketball championships. 

“KDKA and the WPIAL are iconic in Western Pennsylvania, they should and now will be together,” Audacy Pittsburgh Senior Vice President and Market Manager Michael Spacciappoli said in a press release. “Our goal from the day we launched this platform has always been the same: To tell the stories of these incredible student-athletes and the communities they play in. We are steadfast in our mission, and this partnership with the WPIAL takes it to a completely different level.”

In addition to being the official broadcasting partner for radio and audio streaming games, the station’s on-air and digital coverage will continue, and additional content is in the works.

“The WPIAL is very excited about our partnership with the world’s first radio station, KDKA,” WPIAL Executive Director Scott Seltzer said in the release. “They’ve made it clear to us they are committed to telling the stories of the great accomplishments of our student-athletes. We look forward to having KDKA as our flagship station for a long time.”

Mike White of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the deal is through 2028. Additional and expanded promotional initiatives are also a part of the partnership. WPIAL high school football returns at the end of August.
