The hi-top is definitely the signature look for Tiquan Underwood, but it’s the young, fresh voice that has allowed him to grow quickly into one of Pitt’s top recruiters.
Underwood was instrumental in landing Kenny Johnson and Lamar Seymore in last season’s class, and in the midst of putting together the class of 2024 wide receivers, he posted a subtle but clear recruiting video.
The ‘Waffle House Gang’ — which is what he calls the wide receivers — came to Underwood’s house to watch the NBA Finals.
So, who are some of the recruits that Underwood is trying to add to the 2024 recruiting class?
DayDay Farmer
When DayDay Farmer committed to Pitt on Christmas morning, it was a surprise — a very, very welcomed surprise. And it wouldn’t have been possible without Underwood.
“I’ve learned that if you don’t have a good relationship with a coach, then it’s not going to be a good fit for you and the school that you want to go to,” Farmer told PSN when he committed. “Coach Underwood, I have a real good relationship with him. He keeps it real with me and I keep it real with him.”
Farmer is a four-star wideout from Florida, currently the highest-ranked recruit in the class.
Nick Marsh
Marsh is one of the top wide receiver recruits in the class of 2024, and Underwood has worked Pitt into a top-five standing for the River Rouge, Michigan native.
He spent last weekend in Pittsburgh, as a high-priority official visitor, but it will be difficult to secure his services. And Underwood and Pitt have certainly worked hard to land him.
Jason Robinson Jr.
Pitt offered Robinson back when Brennan Marion was still the wide receivers coach, and while the communication died off for a bit, Underwood restarted it.
The four-star wide receiver from California made a trip to Pittsburgh in April, and he told PSN that he will likely take another visit to Pittsburgh for a game during the season.
Ricky Johnson
Johnson will be taking an official visit to Pittsburgh at the end of June, and the three-star wideout has been recruited by Underwood to this point.
Zy’Marion Lang
Lang is another Florida recruit that Underwood offered, built a relationship with and secured for an official visit. He’s also taking his official visit at the end of June.
JJ Harrell
It’s still too early to tell, but once Harrell decommitted from Tennessee earlier this week, Underwood was one of the first to extend him an offer.
It bears watching how the four-star wide receivers’ recruitment goes.
