Pitt women’s basketball made the top five schools for four-star guard and top 60 recruit in the Class of 2024, Aaliyah Guyton, who announced her list on Twitter on Monday.
Guyton plays Peoria High School in Peoria, Ill. She placed Pitt along with four other Big Ten schools in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and Nebraska. She stands at 5-foot-7 and ESPN HoopGurlz ranks her as the No. 60 recruit in the Class of 2024. Guyton is the daughter of former Indiana standout guard A.J. Guyton, who also played for Chicago Bulls and Golden State Warriors in the NBA. She also plays AAU for Mac Irvin Fire.
Many scouts rank Guyton as the best in Illinois and it’s not a surprise to see that. She averaged 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game for Peoria last season, helping them secure at Third Place finish at the Class 3A State Tournament and a 29-4 record.
She hasn’t announced a commitment date as of yet, but for new Pitt head coach Tory Verdi, this is a big upside for him and his staff as he is just a little more than two months into his tenure.
Verdi will continue to work with his staff, which includes assistant coaches in Ty Margethaler, Candice Finley and Lakale Malone to scour the country and find new recruits and rebuild the program.
