WHEELING, W.v. – On Tuesday night, No. 1 seed Best Virginia held off No. 8 seed Dubois Dream’s upset bid in the Round of 64 of The Basketball Tournament.
Former Mountaineer Erik Stevenson hit a game-winning three, making the score 70-68 and hitting the target score of 70 to win in the Elam Ending.
Former Duquesne Duke Marcus Weathers led Dubois Dream with 21 points in the close matchup against the region’s top seed.
After trailing by as many as eight points down the stretch, Dubois Dream regained the lead in the final minutes. After a missed shot by Mike Weathers when Dubois Dream led 68-67, Stevenson peeled around a screen on the other end and hit a leaning three for the victory.
Also on the Dubois Dream roster were local products Chance Wright (Point Park basketball), Connor Holobinko (Penn State), Nick Novak (Pitt-Johnstown), Tre McKeithen (Point Park), and others.
Best Virginia now advances to the Round of 32, and will take on the winner of No. 5 Zoo Crew (Pitt alumni) and No. 4 Herd That (Marshall alumni) on Thursday night at 7 p.m.
